New Mazda3 Joins Canada's Most Competitive Auto Market

Canada's top seven selling cars are all found in the compact segment. We seem to love these smallish cars, all of which are of similar size and shape and priced in the $15,000 to $30,000 range. We buy three times more compacts than we do intermediate level cars, and four times the number of subcompacts. Canadians love their compacts- the Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, and the Toyota Corolla outsell everything else by a very wide margin.

Mazda CX-3 Coming
Mazda is set to debut it's upcoming CX-3 subcompact crossover at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show later this month. We've only seen sketches so far, but from a styling perspective, the Mazda CX-3 mates SUV design cues such as thick wheel arches and an upright ride with Mazda's swoopy Kodo design language. Kodo stands for “soul of motion.” In the sketch, we can see that the CX-3 uses the same styling themes as other Mazda models, but according to the company “evolved to produce a sharper form and an enhanced sense of speed.” This tiny crossover will share a platform with the redesigned Mazda2 hatchback, and is expected to get Mazda's SkyActiv drivetrain and chassis technologies including high-compression, direct-injection engines, advanced transmissions and lightweight materials, including the chassis design and components. It will probably share the same engines as the Mazda2 as well, including a base 1.5-litre SkyActiv four-cylinder. More

Just when you think you've heard everything
Just when you think you've heard everything... Mazda Motor Corp. has issued a voluntary recall for the second time in three years for it's Mazda6 sedans. The reason? A spider that seems to be attracted to the smell of gasoline. The spider gets into the engine compartment and builds a web that ends up blocking evaporative canister vent lines. This can lead to a restriction of fuel flow, which might reduce fuel tank pressure when vapours from the evaporative canister are purged by the emission control system. All of this can stress the fuel tank, potentially causing it to crack and leak fuel which might increase the risk of a fire. Mazda says that no fires, accidents or injuries caused by this issue have been reported. 42,000 Mazda6 sedans from 2010 to 2012 with 2.5-litre engines are being recalled in the United States. About 65,000 models from 2009 and 2010 were recalled three years ago for the same reason. More

SKYACTIV Technology: What Is It?
Mazda is relying heavily on it's SKYACTIV technology. We've all seen the advertisements boasting of it's benefits. But what exactly is SKYACTIV? Without going into too many technical details, we will try to demystify this huge undertaking that reinvents everything we thought we knew about cars. Several manufacturers are making considerable efforts to develop hybrid or electric cars to meet the upcoming CAFE requirements. Mazda is as well, but according to forecasts, 12 percent of all cars in North America and 23 percent of those in Europe will continue to be powered by a conventional engine in the year 2020. This means that the majority of people will be driving vehicles that are equipped with an internal combustion engine, not hybrid or electric. More
